Qualification: Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (RQF))

The Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (RQF) is a respected vocational qualification designed to deepen your understanding of what effective coaching and mentoring looks like in the real world. It helps you build a critical understanding of the responsibilities of a workplace coach and mentor, while developing practical skills you can apply immediately with colleagues, clients, or team members.

A key strength of this qualification is its focus on impact. You will explore how coaching and mentoring can influence performance, behaviour, and outcomes within an organisation, not just personal development in isolation. You will also learn how to evaluate your own skills, behaviours, and knowledge as a coach and mentor, so you can improve your practice over time and work with more confidence.

Assessment is evidence-based rather than exam-heavy. The qualification is assessed through a combination of written work, a portfolio of evidence, and observation of occupational competence, which keeps it grounded in authentic practice. Learning materials and assignments are accessed through an online platform, with flexibility to study at your own pace.

Awarding body

This qualification is awarded through Training Qualifications UK (TQUK), an Ofqual-regulated and fully accredited awarding organisation. It carries strong recognition because it sits within the regulated UK framework, with standards designed to reflect real workplace competence. TQUK works with a large network of approved centres globally, which adds credibility and consistency to the learner experience. Choosing an Ofqual-regulated awarding body is a practical way to show employers and clients that your coaching and mentoring capability has been developed and assessed to a recognised standard, not simply self-declared.

What’s the Return on Investment (ROI)?

This pathway is a strong ROI choice because coaching and mentoring skills transfer across sectors, from education and employability to corporate leadership and people development. In the UK, careers advisers (a closely related role that includes career coaching) typically earn £25,000 (starter) to £40,000 (experienced), showing clear earning potential as responsibility grows. For those working more commercially, business coach earnings can also be strong, with an average salary figure in England reported around £44k (figures vary by niche, location, and whether you are employed or self-employed).

With CareerValu’s payment plan, you can start from £200  today, spreading the investment across 12 months (total £2400 ). That structure makes it realistic to build the qualification while you are working, then use it to step into better-paid roles or add a new income stream through coaching and mentoring.

Typical manager-level earning potential in coaching, mentoring, and people development pathways can look like:

  • Entry-level Managers ROI: £32,000 to £38,000
  • Mid-level Managers ROI: £38,000 to £48,000
  • Senior Managers ROI: £48,000 to £60,000+

These ranges vary by sector and location, but the direction is consistent: stronger coaching capability often leads to bigger responsibility, better progression options, and higher earning potential.
